However, Politico notes that eight years ago, "a terrorist bomber's attempt to blow up a transatlantic airliner was thwarted by a group of passengers, an incident that revealed some gaping holes in airline security just a few months after the attacks of September 11. But it was six days before President George W. Bush, then on vacation, made any public remarks about the so-called 'shoe bomber,' Richard Reid, and there were virtually no complaints from the press or any opposition Democrats that his response was sluggish or inadequate."
Typical. Obama made an immediate statement, was engaged the entire time, and has taken steps while still in Hawai'i to address the problems. Bush (who was on vacation more than any other President in history) waited a week to do anything. Yet this is somehow Obama's fault...
GOP hypocrisy. The Republicans use terrorism as a campaign issue. They don't really care if people are safe, they care if people get scared and vote GOP.

Lack of a tie? And I thought this was a serious response.

Let's face facts...the failures in the system were a) mainly by FOREIGN screeners and b) systemic to the nature of how we screen passengers. The Obama Administration didn't cause these problems. And (fortunately) the attempt was thwarted and thus we didn't have a major crisis/accident. Knee-jerk reactions would have served little purpose. This President actually takes some time to analyze/consider things before running out and beating drums...I think that is a nice change. And not wearing a tie...give me a break, that is such a pathetic criticism it's not even worth addressing. He's not a king and not a military officer. And he has not (yet) gone Reagan and worn jeans/cowboy shirts in the Oval Office.
