Declaring that Sen. Barack Obama is an "extraordinary American," Gov. Bill Richardson of New Mexico endorsed Obama for the Democratic nominee for president on Friday.
I'd have loved to see that before Texas, but it's still an amazing coup over the Clinton campaign and a huge endorsement from a former candidate with huge foreign policy credentials. And given the situation and perceived shortcomings, I can see Richardson being a great running mate.
The big issue here is the campaign talking point of Clinton...that Obama isn't ready to be a world leader. Though she contradicted her "he's not ready to be President" assertion with an oddly timed (for the losing candidate) flirtation with him as #2 (if he's ready to be VP, he's by definition ready to be President). Now Bill Clinton's former cabinet member and UN Ambassador has backed Obama. Experience talking, and experience wants Barack!
